6 of 8 spots left · Sign-ups close Friday at noon
If Lobby cancels the event, whether for rain or because not enough players sign up, everyone gets a full $5 refund.
The fine print. It's $5 to register. By signing up you're committing to show up — we only have 8 spots and every no-show means someone else misses a match. Entry fees aren't refunded for a no-show or if you cancel after sign-ups close. If you can't make it, let us know as soon as you can so we can pass your spot to the waitlist. Registration closes Friday, October 9 at noon ET or when all 8 spots are filled, whichever comes first. Level is self-reported.
How the afternoon works
Scheduled for 3 matches
Everyone is scheduled for all 3 rounds, one set each, win or lose. Each round, winners play winners and losers play losers, so the next match is against someone with a similar result. The plan places the field from 1st to 8th.
Real sets, not mini ones
- Each match is one regular set, like you'd play any weekend
- 4 matches at a time, so nobody sits around waiting
- Every match has a 50-minute time cap
- Standard set and tiebreak scoring. Full scoring rules
Before you show up
- Check in about 3:50 PM at the tennis courts at Godwin High School, 2101 Pump Rd, Henrico, VA 23238
- Bring your racquet and court shoes
- Bring water or a sports drink and drink up before you come. Three matches is a lot of tennis, so stay hydrated
- We bring the new balls
- Self-rated 3.5–4.0 — be honest so matches are good
How much tennis is planned
Each match
- One set, first to 6
- A short set is 6 games
- A long set can go to 7–6
The afternoon
- Scheduled for 3 matches, one set each, win or lose
- Everyone is scheduled for the same number
- Each match has a 50-minute cap. There is no set end time
The schedule
- 3:50Check in, about then, and get your first-round court
- 4:00Start. Warm up with your first opponent
- AfterRounds follow as matches finish. No set end time.
Golden point at the second deuce
The first deuce is normal tennis. If you get back to deuce a second time, the next point wins the game.
- First deuce (40–40): play ad like usual. Win the next point for advantage, then win one more to take the game.
- Back to deuce? That's the second deuce, and the next point is the golden point.
- Golden point: one point, winner takes the game. The receiver picks whether to return from the deuce or ad side.
Example: 40–40 → Ad server → back to deuce → golden point. Server wins it, server wins the game.
Everything else is standard set and tiebreak scoring. Full scoring rules
If time runs out
- Each round gets 50 minutes. We'll call "5 minutes left" before time's up.
- When time's up, finish the point you're playing. If that ends the game, it counts. If not, that game doesn't count.
- Most games wins. Tied on games? Play one sudden-death point, and the receiver picks the side.
- Mid-tiebreak? Whoever's ahead in the tiebreak wins. Tied? One sudden-death point.
If you finish early
Rehydrate and watch. If your next opponent is also done, you can start your next match early. Rounds follow as players finish. There is no set end time.
This is the first one. If the turnout's good, we'll make it a weekly thing, so tell a friend who'd play.
